Jay and I met through mutual friends in 2003 at Casey Moore’s in Tempe, AZ. There was an instant spark but, we were both too nervous to take the first step. For the next few years, we continued to bump into each other at various events. Finally, after several chance encounters, Jay asked me out on our first date!

From the start, Jay and I knew that we were meant to be together. We were traveling, getting to know each others’ families, spending time with friends, and just enjoying our life together. Soon we were hinting at marriage, kids, and even decided to move in together. I was sure he was going to pop the question at any time!

Sadly, all of our plans were about to be put on hold. By spring of 2008, I had been diagnosed with stage III Uterine and Ovarian Cancer. For us, last year was full of tough decisions and the stark reality of my diagnosis. Our dreams to have our own children were dashed and we were absolutely heartbroken. There were often times we’d have to depend on love and faith to get us through the next few moments. And though Cancer seemed insurmountable, we never let it defeat us.

After completing several rounds of chemo, my overall prognosis was looking better. On an impromptu trip to Colorado, Jay took me by surprise and proposed to me on a snowy Sunday on the powdery slopes of Beaver Creek, Colorado. With our best friends, Chris and Clint by our side, he asked me to spend the rest of our lives together. Through tears and amongst the applause, we were finally engaged!

To complete this story, we want to get married in the Bahamas because it holds such a special place in our hearts. Before my diagnosis, we had planned a family vacation to Grand Bahama Island. Despite being weak, bald, and constantly sick, I used the trip as motivation to get through each painful session of chemo. Luckily, I was able to travel between treatments. Although exhausted most of the time, I still remember the warm sun on my face and the cool Bahamian breeze. Those are amongst the things that I will never forget. Now that I’m in remission, getting married in the Bahamas would be like coming full circle for Jay and I. I’d love nothing more than to experience the islands with my renewed strength and energy!

“It’s Better In The Bahamas” because of its rich history, hospitable locals, festive Junkanoo, and strikingly scenic beaches. Please choose us for this generous prize and give us the island wedding we’ve always imagined. Through this challenging year, Jay stood by my side, with an unwavering belief that I would get better and that someday we’d get married. I want to make that dream come true for him and for me. I can’t think of a better place to celebrate our nuptials than the Bahamas!

Jay & Lisa will be married at Old Bahama Bay Resort!
